Fresh off its 100th anniversary, The Original Rainbow Cone has been a beloved fixture of Chicago’s dessert scene. Established in 1926 by Joe and Katherine Sapp and famous for its signature five-flavor cones, the ice cream institution has announced an exciting expansion: its first Miami outpost and an ice cream truck serving the local community!

The Palmetto Bay location is set to open on Monday, September 28, at 14475 South Dixie Highway with plenty of creative ice cream treats, cakes, shakes, sundaes and mini donuts. But it’s the namesake “Original Rainbow Cone” that stands above the rest, offering slices (not scoops) of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio and orange sherbet flavors.
Other signature ice cream flavors include birthday cake, black walnut, butter pecan, chocolate peanut butter swirl, cookie dough, cookies and cream, lemon raspberry swirl and New York vanilla.
The new shop will also feature the brand’s pink-and-white polka-dotted aesthetic with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a local Rainbow Cone truck to serve neighborhoods, schools and events in the region. The expansion is being brought by longtime fans and husband-and-wife duo Sara and Jason DePalma, who enjoyed the ice cream for many years in Chicago before settling in South Florida.
The Original Rainbow Cone Miami grand opening
Celebrating the grand opening on September 28 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Palmetto Bay scoop shop will be giving away free Original Rainbow Cones to the first 100 guests in line! It will open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
