We’re letting you in on a little secret: A new speakeasy has landed in South Florida, and it’s designed to feel like a true discovery!
Found within Downtown Hollywood’s Common Room, a modern American restaurant that recently opened its doors, The Brooklyn Room is accessed only by invitation. It’s completely concealed from the dining room, tucked behind an inconspicuous bookshelf in the hallway leading to the restroom.
Not just any bookshelf
Guests in the know pull on the bookshelf’s frame to reveal the entrance to the hideaway, inviting them to cocktails that pay homage to Brooklyn’s neighborhoods and iconic areas, soundtracked by a rotating mix of old-school hip hop and jazz.
If you’d like to know how to get inside, access is granted exclusively by the manager. And while entry is by invitation only, regulars of Common Room and any of BOL Hospitality Group’s concepts tend to find their way in….
Two experiences under one roof
Common Room itself spans 2,000 square feet with seating for approximately 65 guests. The interiors feature distinct floral coverings and brass-framed mirrors that give the space a nostalgic warmth. Outdoor seating is planned for the future.
The menu leans into elevated American comfort classics, like a Lobster Roll ($35) with Maine lobster salad on toasted brioche with salmon roe, Tamarind Braised Short Rib ($55) with mascarpone mash and Chicken & Caviar (market price) featuring crisp chicken with Osetra caviar and crème fraîche. Pasta options range from Wild Mushroom Pappardelle ($26) to a Spicy Rigatoni ($24) with Calabrian chili and burrata.
Cocktails with Miami flair
The Supper Club-inspired bar program was developed by Miami’s Unfiltered Hospitality. It pairs classic builds with original signatures, including the Dancing Flamingo ($20) — Nikka gin, guava, grapefruit, lemon and sparkling wine — and Late Night Feels ($18), built on Ketel One Vodka, Zucca amaro, espresso, raspberry and vanilla bean. Martinis are tailored to order at $18, and spirit-free options are also available.
BOL Hospitality Group was co-founded in 2013 by Eric Douglas and Hai Nguyen. The group’s existing South Florida portfolio includes Bae Korean Grill, The BŌL Asian Cuisine and Davidoff of Geneva Cigar Lounge at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. A new pan-Asian restaurant, Zhō, is slated to open at Dania Pointe later this year.
Common Room is open Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. For more information and reservations, visit their website.
