The finest dance, opera and musical productions come to Miami from all around the world to play at the Arsht’s Ziff Ballet Opera House. And as part of its 2022-2023 Broadway in Miami series, a hit musical is slated to debut here in the 2,400-seat wonder on October 25-30.
Don’t lose your head, however! Written by Cambridge University duo Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, SIX tells the story of the ill-fated wives of Henry VIII (divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived) in the modern world. Despite their fates, they take the microphone to reclaim their identities outside the shadow of their spouse.
Featuring an all-woman cast and all-woman band, the wives remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a celebration of 21st century girl power. It’s safe to say that the wives may not have formed a pop group over 400 years ago, but the show doesn’t stray too far away from the historical events that took place.
This illuminating musical has won 23 awards in the 2021/2022 Broadway season, including the Tony Award for Best Original Score and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical. The musical was first presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017 and has since gone on to professional productions on Broadway as well as internationally.
SIX: The Musical can be enjoyed at the opera house Tuesday through Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday (October 29) at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday (October 30) at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. SIX will also be playing at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale from October 11-23. Click here to learn more.
