Miami is perhaps best-known for having (mostly) great weather. So, when you think of our city, you likely think of the hot sun beaming down on the tropical sand and palm trees.
Therefore, it’s of utmost importance that we have a lifetime stock of cooling snacks to help us through these waves of heat. Ice cream tops our wishlist for this. And, although we have these in abundance by our beaches, you really can never have enough.
Enter Salt And Straw. An Oregon born ice cream chain that has amassed 19 locations across three states thus far. Owners Tyler and Kim Malek of the specialist ice cream brand confirmed that it would be opening stores in two different Miami locations – Coconut Grove and Wynwood. They will be Salt and Straw’s first east coast locations and will start serving this spring.

Salt and Straw began in Portland in 2011, gaining huge popularity for the unique variety of flavors that complimented the basics. These included black olive brittle, goat’s cheese and honey lavender. They will also be designing an entirely new Salt and Straw menu, tailored specifically towards south Florida.
They have recently revealed a limited-time “vegandulgence” series to their current stores, with a menu designed for each location. This is said to be available through January. But, what will be included in Miami is their commitment to keeping at least 20% of the menu Vegan all year round.

While there is no set opening date, there have been Salt and Straw pop-up tasters since the announcement. Keep an eye out for some more hitting the 305 before the spring launch. They’re sure to bring all their most interesting blends. And if the black olive brittle flavor doesn’t intrigue you, what will?!
