It may be time for a quick fridge check before buttering your toast this morning.
A batch of Miyoko’s Creamery European Style Salted Plant Milk Butter is being recalled by Prosperity Organic Foods, and Florida is one of the 10 states where it was distributed.
In the “Class II” recall, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that the butter is being pulled from shelves due to potential contamination with yeast, mold and E. coli. This means that while eating the recalled butter isn’t likely to cause life-threatening issues, it could certainly cause temporary, reversible health problems (like a nasty bout of food poisoning).
How to check if your butter is affected
Perishable and stored refrigerated or frozen, you’ll want to check for an 8 oz carton of Miyoko’s Creamery Salted Plant Milk Butter with the following information:
- UPC: 857554005773
- Lot Number: 07871 (printed on the individual carton) or 1007871 (on shipping case)
- Best By Date: 11/5/26
A total of 1,304 cases have been affected and the butter was distributed to retail locations in Florida, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Wisconsin.
If the numbers on your butter match the list above, do not eat it. Consumers are advised to throw the product away immediately or return it to the grocery store where they purchased it for a refund.
If your Miyoko’s butter has a different lot number or best-by date, it is not part of this recall and is safe to enjoy!
