You’ve probably seen those *picture-perfect* TikTok videos with travelers stepping right from their room onto a deck in the open ocean, but it felt like a far-off fantasy vacation. Well now you can get that way closer to home, with a new luxury travel experience right here in South Florida about one hour from Miami!
Ombi, a travel/resort company, has constructed unique bungalows that are floating in the middle of the waters surrounding Key Largo, offering visitors a chance to be fully immersed in nature and oceanic life.
Even better than an overnight boat stay, you’ll basically be in a floating hotel room in the middle of the water–with those regular comfortable amenities plus immediate access to the outdoors! Find out all about this new vacation option below.
Where are the bungalows?
Ombi’s bungalows are floating in the Tarpon Basin, right off the coast of Key Largo. It’s a prime spot for spotting wildlife like dolphins and manatees, and simply enjoying the area’s signature turquoise blue waters.
What exactly does each bungalow feature?
The bungalows are equipped with everything you might need while separated from the mainland, in addition to lots of extra little luxuries! See:
- Wrap-around deck you can jump off to go swimming, or just take in the views
- Kayaks, paddleboards, snorkel masks, fins
- Outdoor seating and dining set
- Hammock
- Cozy nook for naps or reading
- Wi-Fi and flatscreen TV, so you can be a little connected if you’d like
- Bluetooth speakers both inside and outside
- King-sized bed, automatic window blinds
- Air-conditioning; fridge/freezer, microwave
What about food?
As part of the stay, guests get to enjoy gourmet dinner for two, breakfast for two, chilled drinking water and stocked beverages, and a welcome basket!
How do you get back and forth?
Round-trip boat transfer is included in your stay, so you don’t have to worry about finding your own ride out to the middle of the sea! The meeting spot is Snooks Bayside Restaurant & Grand Tiki Bar at 99470 Overseas Hwy in Key Largo.
Check-in time is 4 p.m., and check-out is 11 a.m.
What about bad weather?
Don’t want to be out in the middle of the ocean in the middle of a storm? We don’t blame you! Ombi will cancel
So how much is it?
It changes slightly depending on the day you choose, but most stays appear to average about $985 per night. So yes, a big splurge, but you can’t deny it’s a super unique experience! Plus that does include food and transportation.
What are people saying about it?
The experience actually has great reviews courtesy of Google maps. One person notes:
“This was a amazing experience, truly in contact with nature in the privacy of our own luxury floating home, loved the experience. We were able to watch manatees and dolphins multiple times, also relax watching a beautiful sunset and the amazing sky full of stars, def a place that I will come back.”
While another says: “Wow, just wow! I left a lot of very envious people behind. This is a one of a kind experience that cannot be found anywhere else! If you are looking for a true ‘get away’ that is peaceful, luxurious and relaxing, you have found it.”
