There’s no better time to start planning your summer getaway than right now. And just in time for the season, American Airlines has arrived.
American Airlines is making travel to the British Virgin Islands much easier with a brand new non-stop service between Miami and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
Beginning June 1st, travelers looking to take their vacation plans to the Caribbean can take daily flights from Miami to the beautiful shores of Beef Island, which is located just east of Tortola. Flights will depart Miami at 10:07 a.m. and arrive at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport at 1:06 p.m. Return flights will depart at 1:47 p.m. and arrive at 4:25 p.m.
It will be operated on an Embraer 175 aircraft, which is capable of operating on smaller runways.
This three hour flight is a game-changer for the territory — it’s the first non-stop route from the U.S. to BVI since the 1980s, according to BVI tourism officials. Typically, travelers need to connect in Puerto Rico or St. Thomas to get to the British Overseas Territory.
“As the first nonstop flight from the U.S. in decades, this is a monumental opportunity to bring more North American travelers to the crystal-clear waters of our beloved island-destination,” said Clive McCoy, the director of tourism of the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission.
The new service will first run between June 1 and Aug. 14, before restarting in November. For more information and to be one of the first ones to take this route you can visit American Airlines’ website.
