It’s not easy finding a place in Miami where you can really let out a scream. Sometimes we need to release those pent-up emotions, but in a city of more than 2 million people, yelling in public isn’t necessarily well received.
However, there’s a new, yet unconventional way to let loose in public without fear of judgement — Miami Scream Team.
What is Miami Scream Team?
Founded by Marissa Cardenas, Miami Scream Team convenes every Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Margaret Pace Park. Participants begin with a yoga session together, and then count down to collectively shriek and shout while facing Biscayne Bay.
According to the Miami New Times, the idea first came to Cardenas during a difficult personal period, when she walked out of a yoga class with a friend and asked him, “Do you ever feel like screaming?”
She eventually proposed it to her yoga friends as a type of ritual for emotional release, she told the publication, and now the weekly sessions have grown in popularity.
The scream sesh is intended to be a judgement-free space, and those who don’t want to participate in the yoga flow can arrive just to let out their full-throated yells. The best part? It’s completely free to attend.
When and where does Miami Scream Team meet?
You can release your frustrations across from the basketball courts at Margaret Pace Park, where Miami Scream Team meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. The beginner-friendly yoga runs for one hour, immediately followed by a “scream and release” by the water.
