If there’s one thing football cannot go without, it’s their devoted and loyal fans. And while it may be difficult to pinpoint which ones will go to great lengths for their teams, one recent study may have given us a hint of which fan bases are the most passionate.
According to research conducted by sports betting website Betting.com, Miami Dolphins fans rank as the third most passionate fan base in football.
The company looked at more than 300,000 comments from fanatics under social media game day posts to determine which ones are the most die-hard about their franchise. The posts were analyzed to assess the strength of their sentiment and passion using a “natural language toolkit model” which gave a passion value that was turned into a percentage score.
Their findings state that Phins fans are 3.55% more passionate about their team than the average NFL fan, with their comments being an average of 39%.
“They come out sixteen spots above fellow Florida natives the Jaguars,” the report says.
As we all know, there are very few teams with a fan base as devoted as the Dolphins’. Despite not winning a single Super Bowl since the early ’70s, the Miami team can count on loyal fans to show support and stick beside them through the ups and downs, repping aqua and orange.
As for the other top-ranked fan bases? They are the New England Patriots at No. 1 with 41%, the New York Giants at No. 2 with 40%, the Green Bay Packers at No. 4 with 39%, and the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 5 with 38%.
And at the bottom of the list are the Minnesota Vikings, who fall over 10% below the NFL average fan base for passion.
