The 10 pm-5 am curfew will become effective on Friday.
Miami Mayor Francis Suárez has just announced the city will be imposing a 10 pm curfew for its residents starting Friday, Mar 27, as the local government works to stop the spreading of coronavirus. City of Miami commissioners unanimously approved the 10 pm-5 am curfew during a virtual meeting late last night.
Mayor Suárez also stated that the curfew will remain in place until the state of emergency declaration is lifted. An official statement explaining the details of the curfew is expected to be released later on today.
There are three major exceptions to the curfew. These include:
- People traveling to and from work at businesses that are deemed essential such as medical personnel, law enforcement, and workers at essential stores, among others.
- People traveling because of medical emergencies
- People walking their dog past curfew times and who must keep within 250 feet from their homes.
The City of Miami Beach has been under curfew since Tuesday midnight. Meanwhile, all Miami-Dade retail continues to work under Mayor González’s emergency order allowing all grocery stores, gas stations and convenience stores to remain open while restaurants continue to work on a delivery and pick-up basis only.
