Take a look at Itamae one of the best restaurants to dine in America this 2021.
The New York Times recently came out with its list of Best US Restaurants for 2021 and, with Miami’s rising foodie scene, it’s no wonder our city made it to the list. Of the chosen 50, some restaurants are classics, while others are fairly new to the dining scene, but all of them “reflect the rich mosaic of American dining,” said the Times.
In Miami, the only restaurant to make it to the list this year is Design District’s Itamae. Ran by award-winning sibling duo chefs Valerie and Nando Chang along with their father Fernando “Papa” Chang, this fresh new restaurant offers excellent Peruvian-Japanese fare “which melds Peruvian ingredients and the techniques of that country’s Japanese immigrants.”
The Design District favorite, which began its trajectory as a food hall counter, was praised by NY Times’ Christina Morales for its exquisite choice of flavors and original take on traditional dishes. ” The Nikkei story is told beautifully here in dishes like the octopus bañadito, an avocado sushi roll robed in a creamy purple olive sauce and topped with supple sliced octopus,” says Morales. “It is a Japanese take on the classic Peruvian dish pulpo al olivo, and a perfect reimagining.”
The restaurant’s Nikkei-style menu features a selection of appetizers, bowls, rolls, ceviches, and tiraditos that is constantly changing to feature bold, new combinations. And, to pair with its rich menu, Itamae also offers an assortment of natural wines which includes several hard-to-find Peruvian varieties.
Itamae is currently open Wednesday through Sunday and is available for both dine-in and takeaway at Miami’s Design District. Reservations can be made online on their website and are probably your best bet when securing a seat at one of the best dining experiences in the US!
