You know what they say; if everyone’s a jerk then you just might be the jerk. We guess this quote seems fitting for Miami, which has recently been voted the rudest city in the country….
And the worst part? We can’t even blame tourists for this one. The study surveyed residents across 40 of the most populated U.S. cities, and the call is coming from inside the house.
After polling residents how often they witness rude behaviors, how those behaviors have changed in the past year and more, Solitaire Streak found that Miami, Las Vegas and Philadelphia are the worst offenders overall, in respective order.
As for what classifies as rude, the survey identified the following common behaviors: being overly absorbed in your phone, drivers waiting until the very last moment to merge, drivers refusing to let others merge and a general lack of self-awareness in public spaces. When asked where people tend to be the most rude in their city, the majority said roads and highways (56%), followed by public transportation (12%), grocery stores (10%) and retail stores (7%).
How Miami ranked
With a “rudeness score” of 99.29 out of 100, Miami landed at the very top of the ranking according to its own residents. And when asked to rank their fellow locals on a scale from 0 to 10 (10 being extremely rude), those that were surveyed gave the highest average rating of 6.55.
This kind of behavior actually leads 1 in 5 Americans to consider moving, according to the study. Specifically, Miami (42%), Las Vegas (34%) and Baltimore (32%) are the most likely to want to relocate for this reason.
Additionally, 57% of Miami respondents believed that residents of the city are the rudest in all of Florida. It’s worth noting that Tampa (No. 9), Orlando (No. 12) and Jacksonville (No. 24) joined the Magic City on the list.
