“Saturday Night Live” star and born-and-raised-Miamian Marcello Hernández will be back in town this September to film his first-ever comedy special!
Last month, the beloved comedian confirmed his return to the city for a Netflix special taping, much to the delight of locals. He’ll take to the stage for four already sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20.
The special, which has no confirmed title or release date yet, marks a full circle moment for Hernández, from growing up in the city to showcasing it as his comedic launchpad. The star has been racking in movie roles, recently appearing in Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore 2” and getting ready to film alongside Kevin Hart for another Netflix film, “72 Hours”. Additionally, he’s making his voice acting debut in “Angry Birds 3”.
His stand-up set will take over the historic Olympia Theater, which opened in 1926 but remains largely closed to the public. The downtown Miami venue has served as a temporary space for immersive exhibitions like the Van Gogh Experience and Art of the Brick, and recently reopened for the Miami Film Festival in March.
Per the event description, those who were lucky enough to grab tickets to the live tapings will be asked to lock their phones in Yondr pouches to keep the experience fully phone-free.
How you can still see Marcello Hernández live in Miami
Disappointed that you didn’t manage to get tickets to his Miami shows? While the Netflix tapings are reserved for September 19 and 20, he’ll still perform his stand-up at the Olympia Theater two days prior — on September 17 and 18! Tickets to both shows are still available at the time of publication, with prices ranging from $56.25 to $169.20. You can see them for yourself here.
