If you make your way through the butcher-like plastic curtains at the back of Wynwood’s newest sandwich shop, the Mad Butcher, you won’t come across a freezer with hanging meat. At least not a real one anyway. Instead, you’ll find a dimly-lit upscale lounge with roaring beats and secret drinks straight out of the era of disco and glam.
Called “NDA,” the low-key club comes alive at night on Wednesdays through Sundays. It’s decorated with velvety orange walls and plush banquettes, all illuminated by the disco ball hanging from the ceiling.
Not only will you dance the night away in style in the gorgeous interiors of this speakeasy, you’ll also find a stellar selection of cocktails not on the deli’s regular menu. Those drinks include “La Vie en Rose” made with rose-infused Ketel One vodka, “Catch Me If You Can” with amass gin and an Ume Plum Liqueur float, and “That’s Amore” with SelvaRay chocolate rum and Cazadores reposed tequila, among others.
But first you come for the food, then you stay for the party. Throughout the day, the Mad Butcher sells classic house-made sandwiches brought on by Venezuelan chef Saver Stassi. The globally inspired menu features some of the world’s most popular signature sandwiches like the Reuben brisket, Tennessee fried chicken, a Cubano, and a Philly cheesesteak.
Furthermore, smoked barbecue meats are on the menu, like their famous Texas-style beef brisket, pulled pork, and lightly glazed St. Louis ribs. And for dessert, there’s soft-serve ice cream and homemade pies.
The shop doubling as a nightclub is the brainchild of restaurateurs Kim Wood (Norman’s) and Coco Coig (Le Chick). It opened its doors in March and joins Coyo Taco as a Wynwood speakeasy in the back of a restaurant.
You can find the Mad Butcher at 2300 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33127. The speakeasy portion, Club NDA, will be open from 9 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
