Enjoy a retro, conscious evening out at Los Felix in Coconut Grove.
Retro music, natural wine, and traditional farming practices, this and more is what Los Felix, Coconut Grove’s newest restaurant, brings to the table. An ode to Mexican culture and heritage, Los Felix blends traditional cooking techniques and modern vibes offering a unique and nostalgic dining experience.
The chic Mexican restaurant pays homage to indigenous Mexican heritage by supporting Milpa farming, an ancestral tradition based on cultivating the soil with awareness of the sacred connection between self and land. Its menu showcases native ingredients such as heirloom corn, cacao, chiles, and squash as well as tacos and quesadillas made with hand-rolled tortillas made on a mill in-house. “Our homage continues with an in-house Molino where we cook and grind maiz daily to make tortillas from scratch, all in the living wisdom of Milpa to mesa, or farm to table.
In keeping with its traditional and conscious cuisine, Los Felix also doubles as a natural wine bar, showcasing wines sourced from small producers in South America, Mexico, Europe, and California that use ancient and biodynamic methods to produce their wine. The restaurant offers a selection of orange, sparkling and red wines available by the glass and the bottle. But if you’re more of a beer person, Los Felix also offers a selection of craft beers showcasing the best of local and imported breweries.
And as if rich flavors and natural wine aren’t enough to make you nostalgic for a time in which abuelas passed on all their knowledge verbally down through the generations, Los Felix has also recruited DJ Harry to carry you back in time by blasting retro music through vintage analog sound systems every Friday and Saturday — They had me at hand-made tortillas though.
Los Felix is currently open 5 to 10 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. For more information on this brand new Mexican spot make sure to check out their website here.
