Kush by Stephens, the delicious Hialeah deli, is throwing a one-of-a-kind party next week and everyone’s invited! But you might be wondering, what’s the occasion?
They’re actually celebrating the honorable Henderson “Junior” Biggers, who has been slicing meats and servicing the community since 1957 when the joint was named Stephen’s Deli. It’s because of his work and dedication that helped make the spot a local gem, especially for its sandwich greatness.
In fact, this was Junior’s first job; his second was at Kush Restaurant while waiting for Stephen’s to reopen after its remodel. After working there for 65 years, Junior is officially retiring and what better way to thank him for all his hard work than by giving him the beloved restaurant for a day? Even the main signage of the restaurant will read “Junior’s Diner!”
Officially dubbing it, “Junior’s Diner Day,” Kush is turning back the clock on Friday, October 21, and with it, they’re bringing prices from when it all started. We always hear about how great the cost of living was back in the day and now you’ll get the chance to experience it for yourself.
With the purchase of an entree, they’ll be offering cheeseburgers priced at .57¢ a pop and their famous egg creams for .25¢ each all day long. Of course, regular food and beverages from the main menu will also be available.
Having opened in 1954, Kush Hialeah has committed to keeping the restaurant as close to its 50s era roots as possible with its original signage framing the entrance and original wood and glass work still intact. Stephen’s officially opened when Hialeah was predominantly a Jewish neighborhood surrounded by the garment industry. According to history, it was named after the first owner’s son and has had several owners over the years, but its glory days were in the ’70s and ’80s.
The menu hasn’t changed too much since its inception, with deli classics like Bubbie’s Matzoh Ball Soup, NY-style sandwiches, Kush Hospitality’s Chicken n’ Waffles, made-to-order Egg Salad Sandwiches and more.
If you’re looking to save a few bucks on Friday, make sure to stop by for some mouthwatering eats at rare prices!
