From limited edition ice cream to delicious coffee and awesome merch, you can finally get your hands on Jimmy Butler’s Big Face Coffee in person, thanks to a surprise pop-up in the luxurious shopping destination known as Miami Design District.
Over the weekend, the brand revealed that it had teamed up with Brooklyn-based Van Leeuwen ice cream on an Affogato flavor. This Italian coffee-based dessert is made with the perfect pairing — a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream and a shot of hot espresso. “Affogato” is the Italian word for “drowned” so the ice cream is quite literally “drowned” into the espresso. The exclusive ice cream flavor is available by the pint at the shop as well as cups of coffee and $50 dad hats.
You can find the trailer on the Northwest corner of 40th St. and NE 1st Ave and it will be open through June 30. If you’re familiar with the giant crushed red SOLO cup sculpture by Paula Crown near the Museum Garage, you can’t miss it. From Monday to Saturday, the pop-up will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday, it will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
It all started for Jimmy in the 2020 Orlando NBA bubble when he ran his own coffee shop from his hotel room and infamously charged teammates $20 a cup, as a result of there being few good caffeine options on campus. Naming it Big Face Coffee, he eventually turned it into a bi-coastal company the following year.
Jimmy kicked off a tour for the frozen treat in Van Leeuwen’s scoop shop in Tribeca, New York, which was then followed up by the opening of the Miami pop-up. On the first day, both locations had large crowds of Butler and coffee fans looking to get a taste of the caffeinated ice cream and a chance to have it scooped by the player. Or shall we say, the NBA’s best barista.
