Living in South Florida, we know the weather may not exactly be paradise when it comes to the warmer months. We’re painfully familiar with how it’s not just the heat, but the humidity, that makes temperatures feel almost unbearable. Especially when we’ve recently had a slew of heat advisories this summer.
But there’s good news on the horizon: we’re getting a slight reprieve this weekend thanks to Hurricane Ernesto as it moves north in the Atlantic.
Hundreds of miles east of Florida, the storm, now a Category 2, is on track to the small island of Bermuda. According to the National Hurricane Center, is is expected to bring strong winds, dangerous storm surge and life-threatening flooding across the island territory on Friday.
According to Local 10 News, South Florida will experience less humidity on Saturday and Sunday, as winds from Ernesto’s counterclockwise flow drags less humid air and funnels it into the state.
While it won’t be a lot less cool, it will definitely feel less humid. And with lower humidity, heat indices will have a hard time reaching the triple digits. On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures will be in the mid-70s with comfortable humidity levels. But by Monday, we’ll be back to higher humidity and temperatures in the mid-90s.
Hurricane Ernesto is also forecast to bring life-threatening rip currents across beaches along the East Coast of the U.S. this weekend, including Central Florida. While this can seriously affect a beach day, the U.S. isn’t expected to feel any direct impacts from the hurricane.
