There’s a lot going on this weekend in Miami and it all has to do with none other than — you guessed it — Bad Bunny. The beloved reggeaton star performs at the Hard Rock Stadium Friday and Saturday for his World’s Hottest Tour (his second one this year) and now, he has something else up his sleeve.
After much anticipation, Bad Bunny and David Grutman of Miami’s restaurant group powerhouse, Groot Hospitality, are set to open their elegant Japanese-inspired steakhouse this Friday, August 12.
Translating to “moonlight” in Japanese, Gekkō will be located at 8 SE 8th Street in Miami’s thriving Brickell neighborhood and can sit 185 diners across a lushly decorated setting. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as an intimate lounge, the space is designed by the New York-based Rockwell Group and gears more towards a darkened palette with jewel tones, velvet draperies and graphic wall coverings.
“Gekkō is the result of so many of my obsessions in food,” Grutman says. “It’s a steakhouse inspired by Japanese cuisine. There are delicious, innovative sushi rolls. There’s a lounge. I knew I wanted to do something that combined these worlds, and once I started speaking with Bunny, I knew he’d be a great partner.”
On the menu, you can expect a variety of options including shared plates such as signature Japanese milk bread, “Lava and Ice” Kumamoto Oysters and Lobster Dumplings. Raw plates, sushi and sashimi highlights include Hokkaido Scallops, and an exclusive new Groot Hospitality invention: the 24k Otoro.
Multiple premium steaks can be found on the menu, including a Tomahawk cut, olive-fed filet mignon from Kagawa, Japan and a snow beef strip from Hokkaido, Japan. Specialty preparations include Wagyu Skirt Steak and a Bone-In Ribeye. Your mouth might just water at how tasty these plates look.
And, in Groot Hospitality fashion, there’s something for everyone–main dishes also include Creamy and Spicy Lobster, Daring plant-based chicken and more.
This is El Conejo Malo’s first restaurant, while Grutman is the force behind several Miami hotspots, including Strawberry Moon and Swan, collaborations with Pharrell Williams.
“Sitting down with friends to enjoy a good meal is one of the moments I value the most. I am thrilled that now I will have a hand in creating this experience for others.” says Bad Bunny.
Whether you’re looking for a Party or somewhere to stop by Despues De La Playa, Gekkō opens this Friday at 8 SE 8th Street.
