It’s always a guaranteed good time at downtown Miami’s contemporary art museum, Pérez Art Museum, whether you’re basking in their captivating artworks or engaging with the local community at an event. Lucky for us, PAMM is bringing back its free Floating Films Series in collaboration with Ballyhoo Media for yet another unique experience to join in on!
Name something better than catching a free movie on a 60-foot screen with Biscayne Bay as the backdrop while the weather begins to cool. That’s right, you can’t! From September to December, four films will be screening right from the water so you want to make sure you mark these unmissable showings on your calendar!
Thursday, September 19 is the first night where you’ll be able to catch a screening of the 1997 biopic “Selena” in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Based on the life and career of the Tejano superstar, Jennifer Lopez plays Selena Quintanilla and Edward James Olmos stars as Selena’s father, Abraham.
Also on the screening lineup are artist and filmmaker Luis Gispert’s first feature film, “Cajita” on October 10 and the holiday classic, “Elf” on December 19 (’tis the season!). There will also be another movie on November 21, but it has yet to be announced.
For the film series, you’re welcome to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Plus, food and drinks will be sold on site.
Films will screen at 7 p.m., with happy hour offered at Verde, PAMM’s sleek casual restaurant, from 5 to 8 p.m. The galleries and the museum will close at 9 p.m., but if you plan on entering, admission is free for members and $18 for adults.
