Finding a tropical getaway in Florida is easy, but choosing which one to visit is the real challenge. Do you go for a beachside resort just steps away from the water or a freshwater spring that offers camping? How about a pastel floating cottage in the middle of Key West waters, as it turns out many have been adding to their wish lists?
Airbnb has unveiled its ‘most wishlisted’ spots for each U.S. state, with the data revealing that we’re all pining for staycations in cabins, treehouses and completely off-grid retreats. In Florida, that dream destination can be found in a houseboat known as Key West Outpost.
Perfect for travelers that want to disconnect and spend their entire time surrounded by nature, the stay begins with the hosts taking you out to the cottage upon arrival (and back to shore on departure day). It’s an international escape where the main draw is staying out on the water and watching wildlife, instead of making it back and forth to land.
According to the listing, guests will find surprisingly spacious areas, with the living room featuring a convertible futon, the sitting area doubling as a game room, a loft housing a second bedroom and a topside sitting area with 360-degree views. There’s also a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom that features a marine-style toilet and shower.
But because it is truly remote, the boat’s power relies primarily on a solar, which means amenities like hot water for showers are limited. If needed, a generator is also available to run the A/C and the refrigerator overnight for around six hours.
Outside, the floating cottage boasts large front and back decks and you’ll be provided paddleboards, kayaks and snorkel gear upon request.

Booking your stay
If you’re already planning your mini getaway, the Key West Outpost is ideal for up to four guests and total costs come to around $700 per night.
Since this is Florida’s most popular Airbnb, you’ll want to book well in advance. Check availability for the listing here and see the most wishlisted Airbnbs by state here!
