If that summer trip in the skies is looking a little out of reach this year, why not hit the road? There are so many destinations to choose from for your next road trip, but luckily you don’t have to venture out too far thanks to a recent report that found our lovely Sunshine State among the best to make a pit stop in.
WalletHub looked at all 50 U.S. states to find the “most fun, scenic and wallet-friendly road-trip destinations,” analyzing 32 metrics ranging from the number of attractions and activities to road conditions and safety to costs. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scaleand then each state’s weighted average was used to calculate its overall score.
To our surprise, Florida cracked the Top 10! It secured the 7th spot on the list, scoring a total of 56.06. That’s just .71 points under Louisiana. Texas ranked first, with a score of 60.33.
Research also found that Florida is has some of the highest camping prices in the country, but makes up for it by having one of the largest amounts of designated national parkland. So you might spend a bit more on camping, but at least you have plenty of breathtaking natural treasures to explore! After all, Florida has a whopping 11 national parks, with Miami alone being home to the sawgrass-filled Everglades and underwater world of Biscayne.
Here are the top 10 summer road trip destinations according to the study:
