Keep those umbrellas handy for the start of the week. Continuous excessive rainfall is expected throughout South Florida, resulting in a Flood Watch that will be in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 13. According to the National Weather Service, the following areas are under the watch:
- Coastal Miami-Dade County
- Coastal Broward County
- Coastal Palm Beach County
- Far South Miami-Dade County
- Inland Broward County
- Inland Miami-Dade County
- Inland Palm Beach County
- Metro Broward County
- Metro Palm Beach County
- Metropolitan Miami-Dade
- Coastal Collier County
- Inland Collier County
- Mainland Monroe
A range of 3 to 6 inches of rainfall is expected in the region today through late tonight, with some places picking up 7 to 8 inches. The NWS also states that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Cities offering free garage parking
Miami Beach will be opening nine public garage for residents wishing to keep their cars out of flood-prone areas through Tuesday at 12 p.m. Proof of residency when exiting the facility will be required. They are the following:
- 200 7 Street
- 512 12 Street
- 1301 Collins Avenue
- 1557 Washington Avenue
- 640 17 Street
- 1661 Pennsylvania Avenue
- 1900 Bay Road
- 340 23 Street
- 400 West 42 Street
Similarly, Hollywood will open four city-owned garages through 8 a.m. Wednesday:
- Garfield Garage – 300 Connecticut St.
- Nebraska Garage – 327 Nebraska St.
- Van Buren Garage – 251 S 20th Ave.
- Radius Garage – 251 N 19th Ave.
The forecast shows that precipitation is expected to stop later Tuesday, as the end of the week will reach mostly clear and sunny skies with a high of 85 degrees.
