All you need to do is head on over to Fort Lauderdale! If you’ve been ’round to Downtown Fort Lauderdale, you might have noticed the colossal statue right outside Society Las Olas. The larger-than-life piece, Thrive, is the work of renowned South African artist, Daniel Popper.
Hailing from Cape Town, Popper is a globally-recognized artist whose work consists of spectacular mega-installations that have featured prominently at hit music festivals such as Electric Forest and Burning Man, as well as other paradisiacal destinations like Tulum, Mexico, and Chicago’s Morton Arboretum.
Standing at 8 meters-tall, Fort Lauderdale’s Thrive depicts a peacefully looking woman inviting passersby to take a walk underneath her lush, plant-filled chest. The magnificent statue was introduced back in 2020 and created using GRFC, fiberglass, and covered in reinforced concrete, which helps its blend in with its ultra-modern and urban surroundings.
The 14-ton piece was commissioned by PMG property markets and is a permanent fixture of Downtown Fort Lauderdale for everyone to enjoy.
So if you don’t feel like taking a trip down to Tulum to enjoy Popper’s other permanent installation Ven a la Luz (although we wouldn’t blame you if you did feel like it) we highly recommend driving up to Fort Lauderdale and checking out his breathtaking creation for Society Las Olas!
