Dadeland Mall opened its doors on October 1, 1962 with a massive seahorse fountain that graced the main entrance and department stores like Burdine’s, Jordan Marsh, Food Fair grocery, Gray Drug and so much more. Throughout the decades, it has become the go-to mall for some of the community’s most unforgettable memories – from a baby’s first visit with Santa to first jobs, prom dress shopping, engagement ring purchases and everything in between.
Today, the mall features over 185 retail stores and restaurants, making it one of the city’s largest, and it’s anchored by stores like Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. And most importantly, it’s celebrating a huge milestone.
“Dadeland Mall is proud to have been a part of so many memorable moments over the decades and we can think of no better way to celebrate this milestone than with our community and our most important asset, our shoppers,” said Dailen Rodriguez, general manager at Dadeland Mall.
To kick off its 60th anniversary festivities, anyone visiting the mall will be able to view a brand-new exhibit presented by HistoryMiami, “Decades of Dadeland Mall,” that will feature a curated collection of photographs of the mall throughout the decades. It will be on display near JCPenney.
Also, a commemorative limited edition tote bag colorfully designed in collaboration with Kendall Supply and local artist Pedro Sola will be available until October 31 for shoppers who spend $200 and up at any Dadeland store or restaurant. They can present their receipts at the mall’s Management Office to receive the tote.
On October 1, the official anniversary date, there will be a “60 Never Looked So Good” Prize Wall in the fashion wing near Express. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., shoppers that spend $60 will have the chance to spin a prize wheel for gift cards and prizes from Shake Shack, North Italia, AC Hotel Miami Dadeland, lululemon, The Miami Heat, Perez Art Museum, Frost Science Museum, Zoo Miami, Santa’s Enchanted Forest and more!
