We had the chance to cover this year’s Summer of ‘99 Cruise which featured Creed, Sevendust and a bunch of other bands. A music cruise is a unique experience for anyone and unlike a regular cruise.
Our Secret NYC writer covered the cruise which sailed from Port of Miami aboard the Norwegian Gem, then to Nassau, Bahamas and back. There were plenty of New Yorkers, Floridians and New Yorkers who transplanted into Floridians on board too! Check out some thoughts this New Yorker had on this four day adventure!
Day 1 – We Set Sail With Creed From Miami
There is actually a Starbucks on board. If only it was a Dunkin (or a Cortadito & any of these coffeeshops)!

At least my mode of transportation for the next few days won’t involve the subway or traffic.
Damn this cabin is so much nicer and bigger than my apartment.

The swaying of the ship makes me more nauseous than a hot “empty” train car. (IYKYK)
The serious faces of Creed Guitarist Mark Tremonti is everyone during rush hour.

Day 2- A full Day At Sea (on our way to Nassau)
The weather is perfect on the deck, wonder what that freeze warning back home on the East Coast was about?
Seriously, how can there be more storage in this cabin than in my actual apartment?

Where in the five boroughs am I going to wear this Creed Captain hat?

Finding out Wendy from Liberty Tattoo (based in Atlanta) used to live in Ridgewood, Queens. We proceeded to talk about NYC for the next hour.

Day 3: The Bahamas bay bay!
Who would win between a NYC pigeon and a Bahamian bird? They got a mean mug!

Ship time vs. land time sounds has me down bad like Daylight Savings time.
Overwhelmed with emotion while sailing away with Sevendust remembering all the amazing shows all over NYC at Gramercy Theatre and Irving Plaza as a teenager.

There were so many sweaty Sevendust shows at the Palladium (formerly PlayStation Theater, formerly Best Buy Theater, formerly Nokia Theater) throughout my 20s and now 30s too.

Day 4 – Full Day at sea as we head back to Miami
These veggie omelets and daily breakfasts have been incredible but where can a girl get a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll?

Thinking about my monthly rent and bills vs. the cost of living on a cruise ship full time.

Wonder if JFK will indeed lose my luggage (with my souvenirs including that Creed hat).
That Dunkin is going to hit when I finally get to it!
Listening to Marcy Playground perform “The Vampires of New York” ironically made me homesick.

Disembarking the next morning was a stark reminder that vacation is over. The Summer of ‘99 was fun, and the pace quickened for the rest of the travel day heading to Miami International Airport. But it felt good to be on land in Miami and heading back to NYC.
