A concert hosted at the only swimming pool on the National Register of Historic Places. Sounds intriguing, right? This Sunday, the iconic Venetian Pool in Coral Gables hosts a classical music concert that turns the historic space into an intimate performance setting. Serving as the closing event of Coral Gables’ centennial celebrations, the evening is set to be a true reflection of Miami’s City Beautiful.
Experience classical music this Sunday at one of the most iconic landmarks in Miami
On Sunday 7th December (this Sunday!) the Miami Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Eduardo Maturet, is performing a concert for the history books. The concert runs from 6pm-10pm, celebrating 100 years of the beautiful Mediterranean corner of Miami.
This open-air concert runs for four hours long under the stars. Its mission? To honor the city’s past, and celebrate its future promising future tomorrow, in a setting unlike any other.
The Miami Symphony performed at the Venetian Pool in 2016 to mark Coral Gables’ 90th anniversary. This year’s celebration, themed “music through the ages,” will honor the city’s refined heritage with 1920s-inspired attire and an elegant cocktail reception.
A concert at the historic Venetian might sound surprising if you’re not familiar with the space, but music performances in the pool go all the way back to its beginnings. In fact, on February 2, 1926, the pool floor hosted Miami’s first opera troupe—an extravagant show with 30 singers and 28 ballet dancers, valued at what would be $16 million today. This Sunday’s concert aims to capture that same spirit of elegance and celebration of heritage.
