The Albiceleste have made history! Argentina won its record 16th Copa América title on Sunday during the final at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, breaking a tie for 15 with Uruguay.
After a mainly scoreless game, Lautaro Martínez made a crucial goal in the 112th minute to give Argentina a 1-0 lead over Colombia. Having already secured the Copa América in 2021 and the World Cup in 2022, this is the third straight major tournament title for the national team.
The historic match also marked Lionel Messi’s fifth Copa América final appearance, the most of any player. However, his night ended in heartbreaking fashion when he had to be subbed off during the second half of the game due to an ankle injury. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner became visibly emotional when he went to the bench.
