Mamma mia! The annual ranking of the country’s top 50 pizza places — 50 Top Pizza — has dropped and you better start making reservations because Miami made it big on the list! The city is home to two of the top U.S. pizzerias, with Española Way’s La Leggenda Pizzeria checking in at the No. 9 spot and ‘O Munaciello, a popular eatery in the MiMo District, at No. 11.
Famous for its Neapolitan-style pies, La Leggenda (The Legend) brings a slice of the true Naples to the city. On the menu, you’ll find delicious appetizers, salads and pasta, in addition to some really good gnocchi alla sorrentina. Don’t miss the Nerano, a pizza interpreted from the classic pasta dish, with zucchini and Provolone del Monaco, as well as the Provola E Pepe pie.
As the first outpost of the beloved Florence, Italy restaurant, ‘O Munaciello serves up authentic pizzas in different styles, ranging from your traditional Margherita to a Capricciosa with ham, artichokes, olives and mushrooms. Their Neapolitan pies are also the real deal, baked in a wood-fired oven, thinly spread and topped with authentic Italian ingredients. As for its ambiance, the location stays true to its Italian counterpart, with plenty of color, nods to the Neapolitan football club and even an angel overlooking the restaurant.
50 Top Pizza’s list this year was topped by Philly’s Pizzeria Beddia at No. 3 and San Fran’s Tony’s Pizza Napoletana at No. 2. As for the very top spot, that honorable title goes to Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City. NYC is actually the most represented in this year’s guide, with 10 pizzerias, followed by Miami, Portland and San Francisco equally, as each of the cities have a total of three pizzerias.
